Edd’s Mission Statement and current works
It all started when I read Marx…
As a passionate believer in solidarity and equality for all, I have always been a political being with a keen interest in Science Fiction and philosophy. As a keen lover of academia, I’ve sought to add these concepts into anything I created.
It all started when I read Marx, then Oscar Wilde, Slavov Zizek, Donna Haraway, Henry Jenkins, ect… I became a passionate lover of transhumanism, marxist-feminism, futurism and fan studies. I’ve since used these artists to inform and validate my work as a performer and as an artist.
My work began purely as utilitarian and science fiction based work, primarily focused on praxis rather than my passion with popular culture, I began to explore work based on cosplay and the issues surrounding the community. One part of this was experimenting with costume creation and the element of costume in performance. I found this focus to be unimpressive but out of this experiment, my cosplay of Magnus The Red was born. From this I discovered my abilities as a costumer creator and have been working as a commission taker for about two years.
Now cosplay and foam armour have taken a significant role on my general aesthetic, I am now seeking to incorporate it in all my work to some degree so that wow factor is never lost.
During the Covid-19 lockdown, after watching the National Theatre’s success in posting online theatre, I have felt that there is a great lack of accessibility in performance art and I am seeking to remedy this by ensuring my work is available for online showings. When work continues in the new year, I will be uploading free theatre performances on Youtube and Vimeo.
